I Tasi: Connections In Between" explores my personal connection to the ocean, rooted in my Chamoru and Filipino heritage. Inspired by my first trip to Guam, this collection reflects my journey to preserve cultural storytelling, much like the traditions of older generations. Through alternative techniques and black-and-white photography, this project weaves together memories, thoughts, prayers, visions, and poems shared with others.

The pieces reflects on the deep connections that unite us, drawing inspiration from the vast Pacific Ocean and the diverse cultures along its shores. Featured individuals also share aspects of their cultures, creating a rich tapestry of traditions and perspectives.

At its heart is symbolism of the ocean a vast expanse that historically divides and connects. The imagery, infused with shades of blue, symbolizes not just the ocean's physical presence but also its role in cultural exchange, resilience, and belonging.

These works offer a glimpse into the lives of those whose heritage from neighboring islands such as Guam, Philippines, Samoa, and Palau is intertwined with the sea's rhythms. Through their expressions and surroundings, echoes of ancestral wisdom and resilience resonate, shaped by generations of maritime existence.

I want viewers to reflect on our shared humanity and heritage, transcending borders to honor the ocean's influence on our collective journey. As we navigate life's currents, let us cherish the connections that bind us and recognize the ocean's influence woven through our existence. Thank you to the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts for supporting this project.
